Day 1 of Pre-Op Diet..ruh roh!

So, I started day 1 of the partial liquid diet. OMG! I am going to be a bitch on wheels. Between this and having my time of the month – I feel sorry for the people around me.

The menu consists of (in no particular order): 4 protein shakes, 2 servings of fruit, 4 oz of lean protein, serving of vegetables and 64oz or more of calorie-free fluid.

As Austin will tell you I am somwhat neurotic about following this. I am so scared that I will do something wrong and it won’t work.

So, I kicked off the day with a trip to the gym at 7 this morning. Did about 30 minutes on the ellyptical. Came home and made a carnation instant breakfast shake – yum! took my shower, got in the car and had my banana. Got to work and for two hours sipped on plan ol h2o. Made it to lunch time and it was EAS AdvantEdge for me – yuck! I have 3 more of those in the fridge but I won’t be buying anymore. As we are finishing up lunch we get a delivery. One of our former interns has sent us an edible arrangement – I want to dig in RIGHT NOW! But, I turn to my calorie-free fluid of Propel instead. I make it to 2pm and head straight for the edible arrangement. I had a piece of pineapple, a piece of honeydew and two pieces of cantaloupe. yum! Afterwords, I turned back to my calorie free-fluid, a little Fruit2O for me! Made it to 4pm – started to get a little woozy. I almost feel lightheaded. But at 4, I got another protein shake – Glucerna this time…okay! Not as good as Carnation but better than EAS. Now, I sit here..SEARCHING for a yummy chicken recipe…oh this is going to be a long two weeks. But it will be well worth it when I wear a bathing suit and look HOT!!

a little hiccup…

So, I went for my “last” appointment with the surgeon this morning only to find out that I gained 4 lbs. The surgeon, Dr. Robinson wasn’t happy. He says it indicates that I am not trying hard enough. SO, I have to lose 4 lbs by next Tuesday (May 5th) or he is going to postpone my surgery. Ruh Roh! So, instead of starting the liduid diet on Friday, I’m going to start tomorrow. PLUS, working out. First of all though, I need to go buy a scale so that I have an idea of where I am.

I’m on a mission now. One last trip to Paradiso tonight and then it’s on tomorrow morning.

the protein shakes

So, I start my two-week pre-op diet on Friday. I went to the grocery store tonight to get what I needed. The diet consists of daily goals of the following: 4 protein shakes, 1 meal consisting of lean protein and vegatables, 2 servings of fruit, and 64 oz of calorie-free fluid. There are a list of protein shakes I’m allowed. So, I went to check out the ones they say you can get from Stop and Shop. I get my fruit, get my protein, get a few things for austin and make my way over to the drinks…$8.99 for 4!!! This diet isn’t going to be saving me any money thus far. I about had a heartattack! So, I bought the glucerna kind and the EAS AdvantEdge. I figure I need to give them a try..because drinking the same thing 4 times a day for two weeks will get old real fast!

Go for my pre-op on Tuesday. I’ll post more then.

The Lap Band Support Group..Oy!

So, they have a lap-band support group on the third Tuesday of every month — I went last night because I had a few questions re: the diet and I can’t get in to see the nutirionist before surgery. There were about 12 ladies there, 4 of which had the surgery. Two, I would say were successful, two were not as successfull. and when I say that, I mean they haven’t lost as much weight…the reason, I found out, makes me wish I didn’t go.

People don’t loose weight on the band if you don’t follow the diet — I didn’t know NOT following the diet was an option. These ladies were talking about m&m’s, chocolate bunny, all sorts of stuff. I thought that was a no-no forever and I wish I never knew otherwise. One thing the nutrionist pointed out is that the band is not a magic wand..you don’t get it and all the weight comes flying off — which I knew. The band is perfect for folks like ME, who try weight watchers for a few months and then fall of the band wagon. The band helps you stay on the wagon because of the restriciton you feel. One thing I was happy to find out is that you CAN drink..beer is not recommended but booze is generally okay. All in all, it was good, I got my questions answered. But, this means I jsut really have to concentrate. I think once I loose the first 20lbs I’ll be hooked!

My pre-op got moved to April 28th and I also see Dr.Robinson one last time before surgery!

May 13th — Lap-Band Surgery

So, I have a big mouth and most of you probably know this, but I felt like it was time to post something on the blog. On May 13th, I will have lap-band surgery. The lap band is a weight management tool that is placed around your stomach to help with weight loss. This is a less invasive version of gastric bypass, as it is a laparoscopic surgery.

Here is a photo of what they will do:

So, they fill the band with saline which is inserted through a port that is located right under my right rib cage. Likewise, if I need to remove saline they go through the port. My eating habits will drastically change. But that is part of the reason for this surgery – I obviously can’t lose weight on my own.

I’m having the surgery with Dr. Malcom Robinson of Brigham Women’s, but my surgery will take place at Faulkner Hospital (because they have private rooms and I have to stay the night!)

I plan to use my blog as a way to update everyone about my progress and how it’s going. So check back often. My next appointment is the pre-op on May 4th. I’ll still talk about other things…so, I’ll make a new category for lap-band talks!

My observations from American Idol last night

Filed under: Uncategorized — mldollaz @ 10:09 am

If you haven’t watched last night’s results show thain don’t read!

A few things:
1) When did Meghan Corkrey get a new last name? All of the sudden she is Meghan Joy? America was probably confused and that is why she got axed. But, good, because I didn’t like her. Although, I thought her attitude was a bit strange at the end – she was like “I don’t care..” but then I realized that she just wants to get home to her son most likely. It must be hard on these parents not seeing their kids for so long.

2) Adam Lambert cannot be compared to Mick Jagger and Steven Tyler. Not even close AND his finger nails are painted. Also, he must not like the new ‘do because every time he styles his hair it’s back to the way he always wears it.

3) Stylists – where do they find these people?? That dress Allison was wearing, Adam’s hair, Scott’s hair, what was Anoop wearing??

4) Matt G. – if Randy is telling you to be a R&B singer — do it!! This man is an expert! He knows what he is talking about. Quit fighting it. If you like rock, oh well! Start liking R&B.

5) Lady GaGa – AMAZING!!
